Usually, the main objective of the nesting is arrange as many parts as possible over one of more panels, maximizing the material usage and scrap reduction. In case where parts are generated from a coil or roll, the width is fixed and the goal is to minimize the necessary length.
The nesting process in software applications is made of three steps: Input of demand parts, repository information and cutting plan generation.
First, based on necessary parts to be produced from a project or production order, the user specifies all necessary information such as description, dimensions, requested quantity, material type, etc. In case pieces are rectangular, only width and length is necessary. In case of parts with complex shape, user can import the part drawing from an external CAD software. In other words, all information regarding the user demand must be set in this step.
Next, it is necessary to inform to the nesting software, what are the panels or sheets available on the factory repository so the nesting process can consider and chose the best combination of sheets to produce the best overall results. It is also possible to set an hypothetical diverse and abundant repository, so the nesting software can forecast what and how many parts will be necessary for producing all the parts in optimal conditions.
Finally, based on the information above, the nesting software can perform all the complex computational work and generate the best cutting plans. This process can take from a few seconds to several minutes. The cutting plans contain all the digital information that will be used for the selected cutting machine. Table saws, guillotines, laser, plasma, oxyfuel or any other CNC-based equipment are capable of getting the cutting plan data and producing the parts quickly and precisely.
Many industries benefit from nesting software: industrial and agricultural machinery, job shop, steel services, transportation, furnishings and cabinetry, ship and boat building and many others.
Nesting software reduces a time consuming, difficult job to minutes and provides accurate production plant to your shop that are numbered, dimensioned and labeled. Besides, costly cutting errors are prevented.
